I volunteer at the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory, located at the summit of Mount Washington, New Hampshire at least once a year. Each volunteer “week,” is actually eight days – Wednesday to Wednesday, weather permitting. The reason that I say “weather permitting,” is that the commute is accomplished via snow tractor, and sometimes, conditions are such that the tractor is unable to make it safely up the road to the summit! The people that live and work on the summit, the visitors to the summit, and others, combined with the weather, make every trip a unique and fun experience. The extreme conditions provide some unusual photo opportunities, as you can see below. These photographs are from late December 2010, and early January 2011.
